![]() The stunt man is hospitalized with relatively minor injuries, and the sheriff believes the collision to be intentional murder for purpose of sexual gratification, but cannot press charges as the women were driving under the influence.ġ4 months later, Mike eyes another trio of women in Lebanon, Tennessee - Kim Mathis, Abernathy Ross, and Lee Montgomery - outside of a convenience store before driving off. I am surprised no one proposed him, unless I missed something big, I think he could be a yes.Later, while Kim, Abernathy and their other friend Zoe Bell are test driving a 1970 Dodge Challenger, a stalking Mike makes his move by following them. He mentions having a brother, "Stuntman Bob", but this may have been just a joke and even if not, he is never displayed to particularly care for his sibling anyway. When he apologizes upon nearly losing the chase, it's obviously a lie of fake remorse to save his own skin by begging for mercy. Now I am not too sure if/how Tarantino-verse standards are evaluated collectively, but compared to others like Zed, Maynard and Matsumoto, Mike has more on-screen kills than them, while standing out from technically deadlier villains such as Hans Landa, Victor Vega or Calvin Candie due to less resources, having nothing but his car and his charisma at his disposal.Īny affability or affection he shows to the women is pure manipulation to lure them near his car and kill them for satisfying his lustful urges. He kills 5 people in brutal vehicular homicides (one has her leg torn off, another has her face shredded by a tire), and tries to kill 3 more. The girls pull Mike out and lay the smack-down on him with their fists, beating Mike to the ground before Abernathy finishes him off with an axe kick to the face. His hopes of escape don't last long, as one last surprise ram finally knocks his car over and totals it. The chase is now reversed, as Mike tries to flee their vengeance, but eventually seems to lose them after much collateral damage. McKay stops to treat his injury by downing it with whisky just as Kim rear-ends his car, and Zoe gets out to bash him with a steel pipe. The girls decide to go after him in revenge. As he steps out to taunt the girls, Kim shoots him in the arm with her handgun, forcing him to drive away. The ensuing dramatic chase sees him try repeatedly to ram their car, but ends when he gets stuck in a ditch. Later, while Kim, Abernathy and their other friend Zoe Bell are test driving a 1970 Dodge Challenger, a stalking Mike makes his move by following them. The stuntman then catches up to the the other 3 girls (who have a + 1), and violently crashes into their car, gruesomely killing all of the occupants with the impact. Despite Pam's pleas, Mike clarifies the car is only death proof for the driver, before fatally smashing her head against the dashboard. It is on the drive he reveals his true colors, ignoring Pam's directions as he drives recklessly to bash her against the rigid side and window of the car. Mike returns to Arlene's group, reciting part of a poem to fulfill a radio challenge by Julia that would see Arlene offer a lap dance in exchange she tries to nullify the deal, suspicious of Mike's car following them, but he convinces her to go through with it.Īfterward, he takes Pamela in his stunt car, bragging about how he modified it to be "death proof". Mike then recognizes Julia from a billboard ad and approaches her outside, introducing himself before walking back into the bar, explaining his history of stunt double TV show roles to Pamela and other patrons. While he is eating a tray of nachos, Mike offers a ride home to Pamela, an old acquaintance of Julia's. In Austin, Texas, "Stuntman" Mike McKay follows three women - Arlene, Shanna, and "Jungle" Julia Lucai - into a bar. Death Proof, a thriller film about a serial killer who targets women with his car.
